Applications are invited for appointment as Principal Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in the Faculty of Law (Ref.: 526451), to commence between May 1, 2024 and September 1, 2024, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal. This is a teaching-track position with responsibilities primarily in coordinating, administering and teaching the Clinical Legal Education (鈥淐LE鈥) Programme of the Faculty of Law and administration/service in Faculty matters.

The Faculty of Law plays a leading role in legal education in Hong Kong and Asia, through its various undergraduate, research postgraduate, and taught postgraduate programmes covering a wide range of legal subject areas.  It is the largest and oldest law teaching institution in Hong Kong, currently consisting of over 80 teaching members drawn from more than 15 jurisdictions worldwide.

The CLE Programme of the Faculty of Law runs a Free Legal Advice Scheme (鈥淔LAS鈥) on HKU Campus under the Duty Lawyer Service, offering preliminary legal advice to members of the public having actual legal problems involving the laws of Hong Kong as to their legal position. In exceptional and deserving cases, the CLE Programme may offer further assistance to the participants of the scheme to assist them to obtain legal aid or pro bono legal representation (primarily in legal aid appeals in civil cases and in criminal appeals).  For further details, please visit .

The appointee should have qualification in law途 significant professional experience in civil and/or criminal litigations in the legal sector and hold a current practising certificate as a solicitor or barrister of Hong Kong.  The appointee will be responsible for teaching in CLE Programme or other law courses途 organizing and supervising the daily administration of the CLE Office, organizing and administering the FLAS; acting as volunteer lawyer of the scheme providing legal advice to participants of the scheme; offering further assistance to participants of the scheme in exceptional cases and providing guidance and training to the CLE students.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary.  Other benefits include annual leave and professional leave, medical benefits, and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries.  Housing benefits will be provided to Principal Lecturers and Senior Lecturers, as applicable.
