The role

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position to work part-time on a Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) funded project to map current funding in children's cancer research against the Children's Cancer Priority Setting Partnership priorities. The successful post holder will be based in the School of Health Sciences, working with Susie Aldiss and Professor Faith Gibson.

Please note that the post is a fixed-term post (up to six months, 0.5 FTE) with flexible working.

In 2019, Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) and The Little Princess Trust partnered with the James Lind Alliance on the Children’s Cancer Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) (final report available from:?https://www.cclg.org.uk/Childrens-Cancer-PSP). The aim of this PSP was to identify the research questions that need to be answered about childhood cancer, according to children, survivors, families/carers and professionals. Our focus in this current project is on the Top 23 priorities from the Children’s Cancer PSP (https://www.jla.nihr.ac.uk/priority-setting-partnerships/childrens-cancer/top-10-priorities.htm). In this project, we will undertake an information gathering exercise to establish which of the 23 priorities are currently priorities for funding and/or being funded. This will involve liaising with funders of childhood cancer research in the UK to collect their funding strategies and information on projects funded in the past five years. This will help funders to see where the gaps in funding are, avoid duplication and enable possible collaborations to ensure that all the priorities receive attention as these are the areas of research that children, survivors, families/carers and professionals have identified as important.

The successful candidate will be required to coordinate and undertake activities including liaising with research funders, leading on data collection and data management, analysis of data involving matching funding strategies and funded studies to the Top 23 priorities, dissemination of findings including report writing, preparing a journal publication and feedback to funders.

About you

We are looking for a researcher with excellent project management and research skills, together with excellent verbal and written communication skills, who can work independently, but also work well within a team environment. ?

Your personal sphere of influence:

As a university assistant prae doc at the Institute for Romance Studies, you will be involved in reserach and teaching in the work area of Univ. Prof. Dr. Martha Guzmán. The focus of research is on Spanish linguistics.?

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to?4 years?if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

About the role

The Senior Manager Workplace Relations works under the general direction of the Director of People and Culture and provides strategic workplace relations advice in a high-performance culture through engagement across the University. This includes establishing and maintaining Faculty and Directorate relations, managing workplace relations projects, conducting high-level negotiations, oversight of complex workplace investigations, providing advice on workplace diversity initiatives, dealing with significant industrial relations matters and advising on and managing the University’s enterprise agreement processes and committees.

Introduction

The Archives and Special Collections has holdings of around 7 million manuscript items and 50,000 books in purpose-built accommodation in the Hartley Library at the University of Southampton. It is an Accredited Archive Service. The archival holdings are especially strong in political and military material for the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and the archives of Anglo-Jewry represent one of the largest collections of such material in the UK. Other growing collection areas are those for maritime archaeology and the Basque child refugee archive.

The role

Would you like to play a key role in supporting care of our archives and special collections as part of our Special Collections team, providing practical support for a wide range of collections care activities?

If you are a creative, practical individual with a passion for history and heritage, who would like to join a small but busy Archives and Special Collections team, we would like to hear from you.

You will have worked within a museum, archive or other collections care context and it is desirable for you to have a qualification in a relevant practical discipline (e.g. fine art, arts and crafts, design craft). You will be able to demonstrate excellent manual dexterity and precision, strong communication skills both written and verbal, and a good eye for detail. You will need to be proactive with a flexible approach and have the ability to work with changing priorities during periods of pressured workload. You will thrive within a small, friendly team, and be open and enthusiastic about developing new skills.

The role is varied, but at its heart will be the care of rare and unique archival and printed material, which can involve collections housekeeping, construction of bespoke enclosures for archives and rare books, data gathering for environmental monitoring. You will also make a pivotal contribution to delivery of the department's exhibition and outreach programme. You will work under the guidance and supervision of the Archive's qualified conservator, who will provide specialist training to develop your skills in this area.

The hours of work for this 14-hours permanent part-time role will be by agreement with the successful candidate.
